Throughout the course of this class I have the opportunity to learn about our bodies through data and exercise. The focus of the class was to understand what it meant to be cardiovascularly fit. I was able to do this by finding my target heart range, RPE, through my one mile times, Tanita scale, and my exercise logs.
Through examining the data I was able to learn many things. The first thing I was able to see was that I lost weight but my body fat percentage stayed the same. To me that means that I was just dropping water weight or I was losing muscle. The second thing I was able to learn was that my stamina increased and my mile times went down over the course of the class. To me this meant I was adjusting to the routine and my body was increasing in strength. Finally the last thing I learned from this data is that I have the capacity to change my body to what I desire if I put in the effort and time.
I found out through the data that I have capacity change my body to my desired weight and mass but I didn’t reach my goals I set. The reasons for not reaching my goals were some poor food choices and effort. Also my goals were really ambitious. My food choices weren’t the best because I did not watch what I ate and I ate out frequently. I also did not put in enough effort. It’s not that I didn’t work out hard during class, but, that working out during class was the only time I was working out. Only working out twice a week did not help in achieving my goals. The final reason is that my goals were ambitious and lofty. I felt like I could do more than I actually could. I think if I started with some more reasonable goals, I could have accomplish them and be more motivated now. I also think if I put more effort into eating right, watching what I eat, and working out more than the two days I had class I would see better results then what I have now. I do not think however I would have reached my goals I set because they were unrealistic.
Before starting this class I had spent the last two years on an LDS mission in Hawaii and gained 45 pounds at the end of it. I went from the start of my mission at 185 to weighing 230 at the end. The food I ate was also not the healthiest choice. So before starting this class I had lost about 20 pounds but had not done much physical activity such as cardio. I felt hesitant at the beginning. Now I feel more determined and I have more confidence because I have a clearer idea of how I can reach my goal.
I really enjoyed the freedom to work out how and where I pleased. It was really awesome that we had the cardio room reserved and the class was small enough that I was able to do circuits around the machines. Another thing I felt was really beneficial about the class was that our instructor was helpful in helping to find what worked for each student. Something I didn’t like was that access to the weight room was restricted because of another class. It would be ideal if I could have used the weight room and the cardio room. Overall this was a fun class.
