The Lab assigned was on linear programming. The problem presented was a local business wanted to advertise their new product through advertisements on the radio and television but they needed to know the how many they should buy of each in the budget they had reach as many people as they could. To accomplish this I used the information given to write inequalities and then put them in slope-intercept form to graph. Next I graphed them and with the constraints found the common area were they crossed. Then I set them equal to each other and found the coordinates of the vertices and used those vertices in the Objective Function of the problem. This then gave me the best solution for the local business to use to get the biggest audience for their new product. I think this project does show how math can be applied to the real world. This is important because it shows how you can be very efficient. For example in manufacturing you can use this to find out how to maximize your product for low cost. I think it can be used also in manufacturing. For example refining gasoline from oil so that you use maximize as much yield from each barrel of oil. It would be important to justify the conclusion and results in this lab because it will show that what you did was right. And if the information is correct then you will see results by reaching that wider audience. This assignment changed my opinion on math because it showed me real world application and it was fun. I always thought I would never use algebra in my life but with this lab now I can see the real world applications of algebra and how I can use it now. I also thought that math was not fun but with this lab I actually enjoyed it once I got my inequalities set up. This was really helpful assignment to get me to see the wider applications for math than the standard arithmetic.
